CLINKER - Scottish East Coast & Borders

Clinker is one of those sites that just feels like pure, unadulterated fun. It’s a shallow barge, sitting upright in about 5 metres of water, and while it might not sound like much on paper, we love it for its accessibility and surprising character. It’s perfect for a second dive, or for less experienced divers looking to get comfortable on a wreck without deep dark penetrations. The barge itself is pretty much intact, measuring around 19 by 7 metres. You can swim right over the deck, poke your head into the open holds, and really get a sense of its structure. What makes Clinker a standout though, is the sheer volume of life that has colonised it. The metalwork is completely encrusted with plumose anemones, often swaying gently in the slight surge. Look for feathery hydroids, nudibranchs crawling over the plates, and small gobies darting into crevices. We’ve seen juvenile pollack hovering above the deck, and crabs scuttling amongst the debris. The light here is usually great, even on a grey Scottish day, filtering down and illuminating the rich colours on the wreck. It's a proper wreck dive, just without the nitrogen narcosis.
