DARING - Scottish East Coast & Borders

Diving the DARING feels like peeling back layers of history. This isn't some pristine, intact vessel; it’s a site that tells a story of collisions and the sea reclaiming its own. We love that it’s supposedly tangled up with the remnants of the CALIFORNIA, adding a real archaeological thrill. You’ll find broken timbers, scattered plates, and the skeletal remains of what was once a pleasure craft, all spread out across the seabed. It’s a site for divers who appreciate a good historical puzzle, who enjoy the challenge of piecing together a narrative from scattered wreckage. The DARING lies shallow, which means decent bottom time and good ambient light on brighter days. We’d suggest going at slack water, as currents here can be a pain, and it makes it much easier to hover and inspect the details. Look for the way the sea has softened the edges of the metal, how kelp now waves from exposed frames, and the little cracks and crevices where wrasse dart in and out. It’s not about grand vistas here; it’s about the intimacy of discovery, seeing how a wreck becomes part of the natural reef, providing shelter for crabs and a hunting ground for pollock. Our favourite part is finding those small artefacts, the bits that survived, and wondering about the people who last touched them.
