EINAR JARL - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Einar Jarl feels like a proper deep dive, a reward for the effort involved in getting down to 50 metres in Scottish waters. We love this wreck because she’s largely intact and sits upright, making for a really satisfying exploration. Dropping onto the bridge, you can still see the wheelhouse structure, then follow the deck line forward to the bow. It’s got a solid, industrial feel, typical of a 1920s steamship, with that single boiler and triple expansion engine still prominent amidships. Visibility here can be surprisingly good on the right day, but it’s always a proper low-light dive, so good torches are essential. The metalwork is completely encrusted with anemones, dead man's fingers, and hydroids, giving it this incredible, colourful texture against the gloom. Ling often lurk in the deeper holds, and we've seen wolfish poking out from under plates on occasion. This is definitely one for experienced divers comfortable with depth and colder conditions; it’s a dive that earns its place as a standout.
