EMPIRE FORD - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Empire Ford, a steamship that ran aground off the Farne Islands in 1943, lies at a manageable 23 metres. It’s a good introductory wreck dive for those keen to explore maritime history without extreme depths. What we found was a well-broken wreck, but still very recognisable as a ship. Expect plenty of nooks and crannies for crabs and lobsters, and often small shoals of coalfish hanging in the currents. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, rather than dramatic structure, ideal for divers who appreciate the quiet atmosphere of a history-rich site.
