FLEETWING - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Fleetwing. Now this is a proper diver’s wreck, a little workhorse that finally gave up the ghost in ‘68. It’s sitting upright in about 20 metres, so you’ve got plenty of no-deco time to poke around. We love how intact it is for a wreck of its age and location – you can still make out the wheelhouse, and the stern section is particularly interesting. What you'll experience here is a lovely sense of history and the quiet colonisation of steel by the sea. The deck is a carpet of dead man's fingers and anemones, and we often spot decent-sized wrasse and cod tucked into the nooks and crannies. It’s a great site for photographers who enjoy detail, or for those just looking for a relaxed, atmospheric dive without the usual drama of deeper, more broken-up wrecks. We'd suggest aiming for a slack tide, though the current isn't usually too fierce, it just makes for a calmer exploration.
