HERCULES - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Hercules, near the Bell Rock Lighthouse, is one of our favourite east coast wreck dives. She’s a tug, sunk by a mine in 1940, and now sits upright at a very manageable 18 metres. We love how intact she is – you can clearly make out the bow, stern, and the massive boiler that really dominates the midsection. Swimming along her deck, you’ll spot her triple expansion engine, a beautiful piece of industrial history, now home to clouds of small pollack and wrasse. The visibility here can be classic Scottish – a bit green, a bit moody – but that only adds to the atmosphere as the Hercules slowly emerges from the gloom. It’s a cracker for photographers who enjoy that dramatic, silhouetted wreck shot, and an easy drift for those wanting to explore a proper piece of maritime past.
