HMS BLACKMOREVALE - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The HMS Blackmorevale, sitting upright at 60 metres, is a proper technical dive, and we love it for its intact structure. Dropping onto the bridge amidships, you can see the stern stretching away, the bow dissolving into the gloom. The triple expansion engine is a particular highlight, still largely in place, a testament to its 1916 build. Visibility here can be tricky, averaging 5-10 metres on a good day, but when it clears, the scale of this ‘Hunt’ class minesweeper really hits you. We’ve seen conger eels poking out from the collapsed deck plating, and plenty of huge lobsters tucked into any available crevice. It’s a site for experienced wreck divers comfortable with deco, offering penetration into the engine room if conditions allow and you’re equipped for it. The Blackmorevale is a fantastic example of a WWI minesweeper, much of its character still there to be explored.
