HMS FORTUNA - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The HMS Fortuna, sitting upright at 52 metres, is a proper dive, a real testament to wartime grit. We love this wreck for its striking profile, a dark silhouette against the often-murky Scottish water. Dropping down, you’ll first pick out the stern, then the full length of her hull, remarkably intact despite the bombing in 1941. It’s the sheer scale of the Fortuna that gets us every time; 39 metres of requisitioned trawler, now a home for robust northern creatures. Look closely at the deck plating, which offers plenty of nooks for squat lobsters, and we often spot wolfish peering out from deeper crevices. Our favourite part has to be the bow, still pointing resolutely seaward, where we’ve had some cracking encounters with ling. This site suits experienced cold-water wreck divers who appreciate a challenging depth and the chance to connect with a piece of history. Dive it on a slack tide for the best chance to properly explore.
