INTENT - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The *Intent* isn’t just a dive, it’s a journey back to the brutal realities of WWI. This steamship, torpedoed by UC-40 in 1918, lies in 41 metres, largely intact and carrying a heavy sense of its past. We think it’s a fantastic example of a well-preserved wreck that truly tells a story. Dropping down, the gloom of the North Sea often gives way to surprisingly good visibility on the wreck itself. You’ll find the bow and stern still largely defined, a sprawling metal landscape of plates, beams, and machinery. What really gets us is the way the *Intent* has become a home. Ling-cod lurk in the shadowed holds, their eyes following you as you fin past collapsed decking. Dead man's fingers cling to every surface, adding a ghostly, soft texture to the industrial decay. We love exploring the bridge area, where the outlines of command are still visible, even after a century underwater. It’s a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts, no doubt. Strong currents are a real possibility here, so pick your day carefully and pay attention to tide times. We’d suggest a slack water dive for the best chance to really soak in the atmosphere. Bring a good torch; the nooks and crannies are endless and often hide conger eels the size of your leg. While it's a cold dive, the historical weight and the abundant life make it feel entirely worthwhile.
