MARCHELLER (POSSIBLY) - Scottish East Coast & Borders

Marcheller is a proper little dive, and we love it for its sheer accessibility and surprising character. This isn't some colossal war grave, it’s a modern stern trawler, just shy of 10 metres, that went down in 1991. You’ll find it upright and largely intact at a comfortable 20 metres. What makes Marcheller special is how quickly the sea has reclaimed it. Swim around the wheelhouse, then drop into the hold where the fish would have been stored. We often see cod and pollack hanging out, and the deck itself is a carpet of dead man's fingers and anemones. It’s got that slightly eerie, frozen-in-time feel, like the crew just stepped off. Visibility can be hit or miss, as it often is on this coast, so pick your day carefully. We find a slack tide is best to really appreciate the structure. It’s a cracker for anyone looking for a relaxed wreck dive with a bit of history and plenty of life, without fighting a current or worrying about depth.
