MINDE (EX AMERIKA) - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The MINDE, originally the AMERIKA, isn't deep, hitting a maximum of six metres, but don't let that fool you. This 56-metre barque, lost in a storm in 1916 on a run from Norway to Hartlepool, is a fantastic shore dive from Eyemouth. We love it for its accessibility and the way it’s settled, spread out on a sandy seabed. You’ll find ribs and plating scattered across a wide area, creating perfect hideouts for lobsters and crabs. Look for the distinct bow section and stern, which are still quite prominent. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, the light plays beautifully through the shallower parts, illuminating the anenomes and hydroids that have completely colonised the wreck. It’s a site that really rewards a slow, methodical search. This is a brilliant spot for newer wreck divers to get a feel for navigation around scattered remains, without the pressure of depth.
