MISTLEY - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Mistley, a coaster vessel, ran aground in Beadnell Bay back in 1913. Now, it’s less a wreck dive and more a fascinating intertidal exploration. We love how accessible it is; you can literally walk out to it at low tide, making it a cracker for those new to wreck diving or anyone who fancies a gentle snorkel. Even at its shallowest point, which is basically the entire site at 5m, the wreck has developed into a thriving rock pool habitat. You’ll spend your time peering into crevices, spotting blennies peeking out, and nudibranchs grazing on the algae. Keep an eye out for crabs scuttling over the rusted hull plates. It’s a completely different vibe from a deep offshore wreck, much more about the small, intricate details. Our tip: go on a calm day with good sun, the light really brings out the colours on the wreck and in the water.
