NORDHEIM (POSSIBLY) - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Nordheim (Possibly) wreck isn't about tropical colours. This is proper Scottish diving, cold and invigorating, and we love it for its moody atmosphere. Dropping onto the deck at 30 metres, the first thing you notice is the silence, broken only by your own bubbles. This 13.7-metre fishing vessel sank after a collision in '82, and she's settled upright, an eery silhouette in the green light. You can still make out the wheelhouse, the mast, and the winch gear, all draped in a thick carpet of plumose anemones. It's like a ghost ship, utterly colonised. We've often seen conger eels poking their heads out from behind crumpled plating, and the occasional ling or cod will eye you from the shadows. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too; they love the exposed metal. This site is a brilliant choice for experienced wreck divers who appreciate history and the unique beauty of an artificial reef taking hold in colder waters.
