ODENSE - Scottish East Coast & Borders

We love a shallow wreck, and the Odense delivers. This isn’t a deep, gloomy plunge into the unknown; it’s a bright, accessible exploration of history right off the coast. The wreck lies in around 8 metres of water, meaning you get plenty of bottom time to really absorb the atmosphere. We often find ourselves drifting over the scattered remains, imagining the chaos of its sinking in 1917, torpedoed by a U-boat. What you’ll mostly see now are the ribs of the hull, some plating, and sections of machinery, all wonderfully encrusted. It’s a proper metal playground for crabs, and you’ll spot blennies poking out from every crevice. We’ve had some cracking encounters with inquisitive seals here too, usually popping by to say hello before disappearing back into the kelp. It’s a great site for newer wreck divers or those who just want a relaxed dive with a real sense of place. Be mindful of currents if there's any swell; it can get a bit surgey, but on a calm day, it’s just fantastic.
