PEIK (PROBABLY) - Scottish East Coast & Borders

Alright, the PEIK. Now, this one’s a proper dive, down at 36 metres, and it feels every inch of it. We love the history here, a merchant steamship, torpedoed in 1917, now lying upright and largely intact. Dropping down, you feel the cold embrace of the North Sea, but then the shape of the PEIK starts to emerge from the gloom, engines and boilers still prominent. We always make a point of exploring the engine room, a tight squeeze sometimes, but the sense of being inside this piece of history is palpable. Out on the deck, shoals of cod and pollock often drift past, ghosting around the superstructure, and we’ve seen some seriously large ling tucked into crevices. Our favourite part has to be finning along the bow, imagining the journey she never finished. It’s a dive that rewards good buoyancy control and a healthy respect for the environment. Give yourself time; the PEIK deserves it.
