PREMIER - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The SS *Premier* off the Scottish East Coast is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to, despite the depth. She’s a sailing vessel, sunk back in 1898, and has settled upright on the seabed at 57 metres. Dropping down, you really feel the history – that hull has been down there a long time. Visibility can be a bit variable, but when it’s good, the sheer scale of her is impressive. Our favourite part is exploring the deck structures, which are still surprisingly intact for a wreck of this age. You’ll find plenty of inquisitive wrasse darting around, and we’ve spotted some sizeable conger eels tucked into the darker corners. It’s a deep dive, definitely one for experienced cold-water wreckies comfortable with technical profiles, but the reward is a genuinely atmospheric exploration of a well-preserved piece of maritime history. Bring a good torch; the light doesn’t penetrate this far down, and it really helps pick out the details of the colonising anemones and dead man’s fingers.
