PROVIDENCE - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Providence is a cracking little wreck, really. She’s a fishing vessel, went down in ‘90 after grounding on an outfall pipe – a bit of a dramatic end, if you ask us. What we love about her is how accessible she is. At just 6 metres, it’s a lovely, relaxed dive, even if you’re just starting out with wreck diving or fancy a leisurely potter. When you drop down, the visibility here can be… *Scottish*, let’s say. But that just adds to the atmosphere. You’ll find the wreck broken, spread out across the seabed. It’s not one huge intact hull, but more of a scatter, which we think makes it more interesting to explore. Look closely among the various pieces of metalwork. Dead man’s fingers cling to the structure, and you’ll often spot crabs scuttling in and out of the crevices. We’ve seen decent-sized wrasse hanging around the deeper sections too. Our favourite part is navigating the skeletal remains of the deck, imagining the trawler at sea. It’s a proper dive into local maritime history, and a great way to spend an hour underwater.
