RAMESES - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Rameses. Now this is a proper Scottish wreck, deep and moody, exactly what we look for off the East Coast. Lying at 60 metres, she’s certainly one for the experienced trimix crowd, but if you have the cert, she delivers. We love the historical punch of this site: a trawler, captured and bombed by a German U-boat back in 1917. You can really feel that history when you drop down, the metalwork eerily still on the seabed. Vis here can be hit-or-miss, typical North Sea stuff, but when it’s good, it’s remarkably clear, allowing you to appreciate the scale of the vessel. Our favourite part is exploring the stern section, where the prop is often still visible, encrusted with anemones and the occasional squat lobster. Keep an eye out for conger eels too, they love the darker recesses. This isn't a brightly coloured reef dive, it’s a sombre, fascinating journey into maritime history, best enjoyed on a calm day with a strong flood tide.
