SALVESTRIA - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Salvestria, a tanker sunk by a mine in 1940, rests upright at 18 metres in the Firth of Forth. At over 150 metres long, it's a huge wreck, though much of the superstructure has collapsed over time, leaving a dramatic landscape of twisted metal and large hull sections. We’ve found conger eels tucked into the deeper recesses and plenty of wrasse darting around the steelwork, with anemones clinging to any available surface. It’s a rewarding dive for those who appreciate the history and scale of a substantial wreck, especially since it's reasonably shallow for its size. Look out for the bow and stern sections, they're often the most intact.
