VIGILANT - Scottish East Coast & Borders

We’re going to be straight with you, diving the UK, especially the East Coast, isn’t always about balmy conditions and endless visibility. But sometimes, a site just nails it, and Vigilant is one of those. This fishing vessel went down in a thick fog back in ‘76, hitting the rocks south of St. Abb’s Head. She settled upright, and at a mere 13 metres, she’s a genuinely relaxing dive – a nice contrast to some of the deeper, darker wrecks in the area. What we love about Vigilant is how accessible she is, even for newer wreck divers. You can trace her lines, peer into the holds, and really get a feel for her working life. It's not about big pelagics here; it's about the resident critters. Lobsters often peek from crevices, nudibranchs browse the superstructure, and the whole wreck shimmers with small fish darting in and out. If you hit it on a good day, when the light penetrates, the sight of kelp swaying around the masts is really quite something. Our tip: go at slack water on a rising tide for the best chance of decent vis and a gentle drift over the wreck. It’s a proper piece of history, just sitting there, waiting for a visit.
