Wreck of Aaffiena - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Wreck of Aaffiena is a prime example of what makes Scottish wreck diving so compelling. Dropping down onto her, we’re always struck by the sheer scale of the ship, lying on her side, completely broken midships. You’ll spend most of your bottom time exploring the bow section, a huge, upright structure that just begs for a torch beam to cut through the green light. Look for the massive anchor chain still spilling out of the hawse pipe. We love how the metal has softened over the decades, draped in dead man's fingers and anemones, providing shelter for crabs and small ling. Our favourite detail? The way the light plays through the gaps in her plating, giving it an almost cathedral-like feel if the visibility is good. It’s a dive that demands a drysuit and good buoyancy control, but for those who love a bit of history wrapped in marine growth, Aaffiena delivers. Expect strong currents on occasion; timing your dive with slack water is crucial here.
