Wreck of Friheden - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Friheden wreck is less about vibrant coral and more about atmosphere, a proper deep dive into history. We love how the silty seabed here adds to the drama, often reducing visibility but somehow making the experience more intimate. You’re descending into the gloom, following the line, and then suddenly, the dark silhouette of the trawler emerges. It's a proper British wreck dive, rugged and substantial. The bow section is particularly intact; we’ve spent many a dive here, exploring the hold, imagining the crew on deck. Look closely, and you’ll spot plumose anemones clinging to every surface, their white tentacles waving gently in the faint current. Conger eels often peek out from behind bent metal plates, watching you pass. It’s a site that rewards patience, perfect for wreck enthusiasts who appreciate the quiet dignity of a ship returned to the sea. We’d suggest a good dive light and some solid wreck diving experience – this isn't a beginner's site, but it’s an absolute classic for those ready for it.
