Wreck of Onward - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Onward is a proper Scottish wreck, sitting upright and surprisingly intact for a vessel that met its end over a century ago. We love the way she still holds her shape, especially the bow section which is often the first thing to greet you out of the murk. It’s a compelling dive, feeling more like an archaeological exploration than just another chunk of metal. You’ll find her draped in dead man’s fingers and anemones, with wrasse darting in and out of the plating. We’ve had some fantastic encounters here with resident conger eels peeking out from behind a bulkhead – always a thrill. The visibility can be hit or miss, typical for these waters, but when it’s good, the detail on the Onward is remarkable. Keep an eye out for the davits and winches, still stubbornly clinging on. This site suits divers who appreciate history and aren't afraid of a bit of a challenge from the conditions. Our favourite dives here have been on a slack tide, giving us time to really explore the open holds and imagine her final voyage.
