Wreck of Radiant - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Radiant, a trawler turned mine-sweeper, lies broken on the seabed, a testament to the harsh realities of wartime Scottish waters. We love this wreck not just for its history, but for the way it’s become a home. You’ll descend into the often green, particulate water, feeling the chill even in summer, but the visibility usually opens up once you’re on the wreck itself. The bow section is our favourite, still somewhat intact, offering swim-throughs where a torch picks out the lurking conger eels. Further along, the midships are more flattened, creating nooks and crannies for squat lobsters and the occasional anglerfish. We’d suggest focusing on the smaller details here; the way sea anemones carpet the metal, or the shoals of coalfish darting through the superstructure. It’s a site for those who appreciate the quiet drama of a historical wreck, where the marine life adds texture to the story, rather than dominating it. Be prepared for a proper Scottish dive – robust, rewarding, and often a little chilly.
