Wreck of Sophie Marie - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Wreck of Sophie Marie isn't your postcard-perfect tropical dive, and that's precisely why we love it. Off the Scottish East Coast, this site is a proper piece of history, often draped in that moody North Sea atmosphere. When the visibility settles, you’ll find yourself navigating the skeletal remains of what was once a fishing trawler, sunk back in the 1950s. It’s an excellent dive for those who appreciate the narrative of a wreck, the way the ocean slowly reclaims these vessels. We've spent dives here just tracing the lines of the hull, imagining her working life. Expect to find plenty of crabs tucked into crevices, some respectable-sized lobsters, and often a grumpy wolfish peering out from a dark corner. The real joy here is the tangible sense of history mixed with the resilient marine life that has made this wreck home. It's a dive best suited to experienced cold water divers comfortable with lower visibility and the occasional current, offering a genuine taste of Scottish wreck diving without the crowds of some more famous sites.
