Wreck of Speedwell - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Speedwell wreck isn't about tropical colours. It's about history, cold water, and the quiet thrill of penetrating a well-preserved piece of the past. We love how the deck planks still lie in place, how you can push through an open doorway and find yourself in a galley, complete with what looks like an old stove. Our favourite part is the engine room, a cathedral of rust and shadow, where light filters down from above, illuminating the massive machinery. We'd suggest bringing a good torch, not just for penetration, but to really pick out the details – the gauges, the valves, the way the soft corals have started to fuzz every surface. This site really suits divers who appreciate a slow, deliberate exploration, those who like to imagine the ship's final moments. It's a dark dive, often chilly, but the rewards are in that tangible connection to a bygone era.
