Wreck of Wasp - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The Wasp. Now that’s a name that conjures up something a bit feisty, doesn’t it? And this wreck doesn’t disappoint. It’s a trawler, sitting upright on the seabed, and for us, it’s one of the best little penetrations you can do in Scotland. Drop down, and you’re immediately struck by the sheer intactness of it – a proper time capsule. We love finning through the stern, seeing the old trawl gear, then making our way into the fish hold. It’s dark, obviously, but not claustrophobic if you’re comfortable in overhead environments. Just watch your fins, there are plenty of snag points. Inside, conger eels are everywhere, peeking out from every nook and cranny. Outside, the decks are swarming with squat lobsters and the occasional wolffish if you’re lucky enough to spot one tucked away. We’ve had some truly memorable dives here, especially when the visibility extends past 10 metres and you can appreciate the whole outline. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and don't mind a bit of a chill; thick drysuit gloves are a must.
