CLAN MCGREGOR - Cape Town & Western Cape

The Clan McGregor wreck is a deep dive, sitting at 60 metres, so it’s one for the experienced trimix divers among us. We love the sheer size of this old steamship, broken into three main sections. You’ll feel the chill as you drop down, the water often murky near the surface but clearing to a decent visibility around 30 metres, revealing the huge boilers and engine block first. Our favourite part has to be the stern section, which still holds a lot of its shape; you can make out the propeller shaft and rudder. Schools of hottentot and strepies dart through the skeletal remains, and we’ve often spotted some impressive deepwater nudibranchs clinging to the twisted metal. It’s a dive that rewards careful planning and good buoyancy, offering a genuine sense of exploration rather than just a quick look.
