CONDESITO - Canary Islands

Condesito is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. A steamship that ran aground in 1973, it’s now very much part of the seabed just south of Los Cristianos. What makes it special? The stern and mid-section are completely broken up, but the bow is largely intact. You can swim right through the holds there, seeing sunlight stream in from the gaps above. It’s an easy dive, sitting in shallow water, and the light makes for some striking photographs. We love the way the light plays on the rusted metal, illuminating clouds of glassfish that shimmer inside the hull. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into crevices, and we’ve often spotted eagle rays cruising past the bow, especially in the late mornings. For photographers, a wide-angle lens is perfect here, really capturing the scale of the remaining structure and those gorgeous light effects. It’s a site that tells a story, a reminder of the sea’s power and how quickly nature reclaims what’s lost.
