DAE WANG NO 202 - Canary Islands

The Dae Wang No 202 is an absolute standout if you’re into proper wreck diving, the kind that feels like an expedition. This stern trawler went down in 1979 after a fire, then was towed out of Las Palmas harbour and purposefully sunk in deeper water. That history gives it a real character, a purposeful final resting place. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer size of the thing, sitting upright on the sand at 50 metres. We love how intact it still feels. You can swim into the wheelhouse, explore the fish processing areas – it’s a proper penetration dive for those with the training and gas. Look out for the resident moray eels peeking from the nooks and crannies; they’re often huge here. The light shafts filtering into the deeper sections are a sight. We’d suggest a twinset and deco gases for this one, as it’s a deep dive and you’ll want time to truly appreciate it. It’s not for casual divers, but if you’re an experienced technical diver, the Dae Wang is a must-do in the Canaries.
