El Narcótico - Canary Islands

We love El Narcótico for its quiet history. This isn't a dramatic, upright wreck, but a scattered field of history, the remains of an old drug-smuggling vessel broken up on the seabed at 35 metres. You’ll find sections of hull, twisted metal, and broken ceramic tiles, all covered in a fine layer of silty sand. It feels like an archaeological dig, a glimpse into a very specific, illicit past. Our favourite part is the way the marine life has taken over. Look closely among the debris and you’ll spot Moroccan white seabream darting in and out, their scales flashing in the ambient light. We often find spotted seahares slowly munching on algae, their frilly bodies swaying gently. European parrotfish graze over the encrusted metal, leaving tell-tale scrape marks. It's a dive that rewards slow, deliberate exploration. Best tackled on a calm day, the visibility here can vary, but even when it’s a little murky, the intimacy of the wreck still shines through. This is a dive for those who appreciate the story behind the metal and the small, resilient creatures that now call it home.
