Las Anclas - Canary Islands

Las Anclas is one of our favourite spots in the Canaries for an easy wreck dive, especially if you’re new to the whole wreck thing. It’s a shallow site, only 20 metres down, making it perfect for extending your bottom time and really soaking it all in. We reckon it’s a brilliant way to get comfortable with wreck penetration, as it’s fairly open and well-lit. The wreck itself is a tangle of old anchors and chains, giving the site its name, but it's really the two small fishing boats that are the stars here. They’ve been down a while, and the sea has done a good job of decorating them. Look closely and you'll spot plenty of nudibranchs, their colours popping against the rusty metal. Schools of barracuda often hang motionless above the deck, and we’ve seen some hefty groupers lurking in the shadows of the wheelhouse. Our tip? Go early in the morning. The light filters through the water beautifully, illuminating the wreck and the shoals of fish that dart in and out of the structure. It’s a gentle dive, suits beginners down to the ground, and offers just enough exploration without being overwhelming.
