MARIA TERESA ALONSO - Canary Islands

The Maria Teresa Alonso might sit shallow, only 11 metres, but don't let that fool you. This isn't just another wreck. She’s a fishing boat, fairly intact, and what we love most is how much of her still feels like a working vessel, just frozen in time. You can peer into the wheelhouse, imagine the captain at the helm, or swim along the deck where the nets would have been stacked. The light penetration at this depth is phenomenal, painting the wreck in shifting shades of blue and green, really highlighting the rust textures and the growth that's taken hold. We’d suggest going early in the morning. The light is often best, and you’ll likely have the whole place to yourselves. It’s perfect for new wreck divers, offering a fantastic sense of exploration without the depth anxiety, but seasoned divers will still find plenty to appreciate. Look for the barracuda often schooling off the bow and the octopus tucked into nooks and crannies near the stern. We often spot moray eels peeking from beneath plates of twisted metal, their eyes following your every move. It’s a very accessible, very rewarding dive.
