Mirafondos, Centro de Buceo - Canary Islands

Mirafondos, what a spot. We’ve always had a soft spot for shore dives where you can just kit up and go, and this one delivers. The entry is simple, a gentle walk in, and you’re immediately into a rocky reef that slopes down. Look for the planehead filefish camouflaged against the rocks, they’re masters of disguise here, and the dusky groupers are pretty bold, often letting you get a good look before they disappear into a crevice. What we really love about Mirafondos is the sheer density of fish life in what feels like a perfectly manageable area. We've seen canary damsels flitting through the water column, clouds of them, with parrotfish grazing loudly on the algae-covered rocks. Keep an eye out for wide-eyed flounder pressed flat against the sand patches; their patterns are incredible. It’s an easy dive, ideal for a leisurely hour underwater, particularly when the sun is high and shafts of light pierce the water. Our top tip? Go in the morning before any wind picks up, the visibility just sings then.
