Pecio Arona - Canary Islands

The Pecio Arona is our pick for a satisfying wreck dive in the Canaries. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the sheer size of her, resting upright on the sandy bottom at 32 metres. She’s an old freighter, sunk intentionally, and it shows in the way she’s settled – very calm, very dignified. We love finning along her deck, peering into the open holds where the light filters down, creating these shifting patterns on the internal structures. There are always schools of barracuda hanging around the superstructure, their silver scales flashing, and we’ve seen some hefty amberjacks cruising by the bow. Inside, if you’re comfortable with penetration and trained for it, the engine room is accessible, offering a glimpse into the ship's guts. Just remember to bring a good light; it gets dark in there, and the silt can be easily disturbed. The bridge area is also great for exploring, providing a real sense of the ship’s past life. This site is fantastic for intermediate divers who appreciate a substantial wreck and the marine life that has made it home.
