PORTU BARRI - Canary Islands

Portu Barri. Now this one's a cracker, especially if you’re into wrecks with a bit of a story. It’s a fishing vessel, not some grand ocean liner, but that’s precisely what gives it character. We've always found these working wrecks more relatable, somehow. You can almost picture the crew hauling in their nets before the fire took hold. It’s sitting upright in the outer harbour of Las Palmas, right where it was towed after that blaze. Descending onto Portu Barri feels a bit like stepping into a time capsule. The deck is at about 20 metres, so it’s a comfortable dive, giving you plenty of bottom time to poke around. What we love about it is how accessible it is; you can fin along the deck, peer into the holds, and really get a sense of its original layout. Over the years, it’s become a proper artificial reef. You’ll find moray eels tucked into every nook and cranny, and often there's a good school of barracuda circling overhead, making the light ripple in a really cool way. It’s a dive that suits anyone with their Advanced Open Water, keen on exploring a wreck that has truly become part of the underwater landscape.
