PUNTA ANAGA - Canary Islands

We've spent a fair bit of time exploring the Canary Islands, and while many sites feel a bit… samey, Punta Anaga stands out. This isn't your typical deep-water wreck; it's practically an open-air museum, with the tug vessel sitting in only 5 metres of water. We love a wreck you can really get to grips with, and here, you can spend ages just swimming around the superstructure, poking into what were once doorways and portholes. The tug itself, grounded back in '75, is a sturdy, compelling hulk. Its shallow depth means light penetrates everywhere, illuminating the incredible colours of the sponges and soft corals that have completely taken over its metal skin. You'll see schools of damselfish flitting in and out of the twisted metal, and often a curious moray eel peering from a dark recess. It’s an easy, relaxed dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who wants to soak in the atmosphere of a well-aged wreck without any depth anxieties. Our favourite time to visit is late morning when the sun is high, really making the deck come alive with light and shadow.
