PUNTA CIRES (POSSIBLY). - Canary Islands

Punta Cires, for us, is one of those Canary Islands wrecks that just hits different. It’s a stern trawler, went down in '83 while laid up in the outer harbour, and now sits upright at a clean 20 meters. You can tell it was a working boat, not some purpose-sunk spectacle. The character is still there, even after all these years underwater. What we love here is the sheer amount of exploration on offer. The wheelhouse is still largely intact, and you can poke your head in, imagining the captain at the helm. Down below, the hold is open, a dark maw inviting you deeper, though we’d always suggest staying well within your comfort zone. The stern, with its fishing gear long gone, is now a stage for schools of barracuda that shimmer in the sunlight. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into every nook and cranny. This site is a great pick for wreck enthusiasts, particularly those who appreciate a good historical context and plenty of accessible penetration. It’s a solid dive, offering enough to see for at least two dives without feeling repetitive.
