Twin Wrecks (Wreck) - Canary Islands

The Twin Wrecks off the Canaries are a solid day out, especially if you’re into the history of things. We love that these aren't some ancient, broken-up mess, but two distinct fishing boats, the **Navegante** and the **Cermona II**, scuttled in the 1990s. They're sitting upright on a sandy bottom, about 20 metres down, so it's a calm, easy dive perfect for beginners or anyone looking for a relaxed photo opportunity. Dropping down, the shapes of the boats become clear quite quickly. We always head for the Navegante first. You can swim right through the wheelhouse, seeing the gauges still in place, the control panel, and it feels like the crew just stepped off for lunch. There’s often a big school of Salema Porgy hanging out around the superstructures, their silver scales catching the light. The Cermona II is just a short fin-kick away, lying parallel. Its hold is a great spot to peer into; we’ve seen some decent Canary Damsels darting amongst the shadows. Look closely at the deck, and you’ll spot Ornate Wrasse picking their way over the growth. Keep an eye on the blue too; on a lucky day, you might catch a glimpse of a Short-finned Pilot Whale passing through, though that’s definitely a bonus. These wrecks are more about exploration and atmosphere than big pelagics, perfect for a couple of unhurried dives.
