TRIDENT - Scottish East Coast & Borders

The *Trident* is a real beast of a wreck, a huge cargo steamer lying at 44 meters, well within reach for experienced technical divers. We’ve always found a dive on her to be a proper adventure, a journey through history rather than just a quick look-see. Dropping down, you hit the bow first, often enveloped in the green gloom that’s so characteristic of Scottish diving. The scale of her really hits you when you fin along the main deck, with massive winches and cargo holds gaping open. Our favourite part has to be the engine room, surprisingly intact. You can fin right through, running a hand over the gauges and controls that still sit there, waiting. It’s a chilling reminder of the split-second decisions made back in 1941. We’ve seen conger eels lurking in every dark corner, their heads poking out from pipes, and the whole wreck is blanketed in dead man’s fingers, swaying gently in the current. Visibility can be challenging, but on a good day, when the sun breaks through, the sheer size and presence of the *Trident* is something special. We’d suggest a good dive light and a buddy who’s happy to take their time exploring the deeper sections. This isn't a site to rush.
