Froggy Pond - Cape Town & Western Cape

La Cathédrale isn't just a dive; it's an exploration. We love the way the light plays inside the cavern, filtering down from the cracks above, making the water glow in shades of blue you rarely see. It’s not a huge cave, but the structure itself is the star here – huge arches and columns carved into the reef, hence the name. Descend along the wall, which is often dotted with honeycombed groupers peering from crevices, then you’ll find the main entrance. Inside, the rock formations are incredible. Look up and you’ll see the light shafts piercing through, a really dramatic sight. Along the walls and overhangs, we’ve spotted red squirrelfish and the more skittish dwarf scorpionfish, blending perfectly with the coral. Keep an eye out for silver-streaked rainbowfish darting in and out of the shadows. The maximum depth sits around 26 meters, making it a good choice for advanced open water divers comfortable with overhead environments. Stronger currents can sometimes make the entry a bit lively, so check conditions with your dive operator. We’d suggest going in the morning; the sun angle is usually best for those incredible light rays.
