HARVEST AQUARIUS - Canary Islands

The Harvest Aquarius isn't just another sunken vessel. It’s a proper expedition dive, a deep-water behemoth sitting upright at 60 metres, a stern trawler that caught fire in Las Palmas harbour back in '83. We love a wreck with a bit of a story, and this one has character. Dropping down, the sheer scale of the 61-metre hull emerges slowly from the blue, a massive dark shape that just keeps getting bigger. It's a serious dive, suited for experienced technical divers comfortable with depth and decompression. The bridge and much of the superstructure are still intact, draped in fishing nets, making for some dramatic photo opportunities. We've often found barracuda schooling off the stern, and big groupers patrol the holds. The engine room is accessible for those with the right training, and it’s a spooky, silent place down there, the machinery still largely in place, just waiting to be explored. Visibility is usually good, but the depth makes it a site where you really need to watch your bottom time and gas. Our favourite part has to be the mast, still standing proud, stretching upwards as you approach, a ghostly finger pointing back towards the surface.
