RAS ALGETHY - Canary Islands

Ras Algethy is our kind of wreck. Not just some pile of twisted metal, this motor vessel went down in 1991, and it’s a proper ship shape. We love that it was intentionally sunk after being raised keel-upwards, towed out, and then placed just off Bajo D. That makes for some seriously dramatic diving. It sits upright on the seabed at 47 metres, so this one's for the experienced, deep-certified divers. The sheer scale is what gets us; 57 metres long, the bridge structure is still largely intact, and you can explore the holds. Light filters through the openings, illuminating schools of barracuda that often hang motionless just off the deck. We’ve seen giant Atlantic rays glide over the bow, and there are always plenty of moray eels peering out from nooks and crannies. It’s a proper colonised wreck, bursting with life. The sheer size and depth mean you’ll want good gas planning and solid buoyancy to make the most of it.
