Why dive here
With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - FYLLA offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Fylla, a modest sailing vessel, went down in Scapa Flow back in 2003. She’s not one of the big German warships, but she’s certainly got character. Sitting upright at 22 metres, her wooden hull is still largely intact, softened now by a thick coating of anemones and sponges. You’ll find crabs tucked into every crevice, and small fish darting through the rigging. It’s a gentle wreck dive, perfect for those days when the weather closes in a bit, offering a relaxed exploration without the strong currents sometimes found on the deeper sites. We think it’s a great second dive, especially if you’ve been on one of the larger wrecks earlier in the day.
