Diving the König in Scapa Flow, you’re dropping onto a leviathan. This German battleship lies completely inverted, making for a unique wreck dive. We usually hit the seabed at around 32 meters, then work our way along the hull, which gives a real sense of its colossal scale. While it’s a dangerous wreck, meaning penetration isn’t really on the cards for most recreational divers, there’s still plenty to explore on the exterior, with nooks and crannies providing shelter for squat lobsters and the occasional anglerfish. Visibility can vary, but even on an average day, the sheer size of the König is impressive. This dive suits those with a bit of cold-water wreck experience and an appreciation for naval history.
