The S53, a German destroyer scuttled back in 1919, rests in Scapa Flow’s relatively shallow waters, bottoming out around 14 meters. It's a great spot if you're keen on exploring a proper wreck without needing advanced certs. The stern is a good starting point, where you'll often find a decent-sized ball of wrasse darting around the propeller. Further along the deck, shoals of saithe and even some curious conger eels have made the hull their home. We’ve found the bow section quite broken up, but it still gives a real sense of the ship's age and history. It's an accessible dive, and a solid choice for getting a feel for Scapa Flow's wrecks.
