With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - V 129 offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The V 129 is a good introduction to Scapa Flow’s history, especially if you’re still getting your bearings. This destroyer sits upright in just 13 metres of water, making it perfect for longer bottom times and less demanding diving. We usually find it’s home to a decent number of fish, mostly small cod and pollack hanging around the more intact sections. You can poke around the bow and stern fairly easily, though much of the midships is pretty broken up. It’s an accessible wreck, a solid choice for a second dive or if you’re looking for something a bit shallower.
