With 140+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - Wreck of Gohan offers some of Scapa Flow, Orkney's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 8-14°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Gohan sits upright, a real bonus in Scapa Flow, with her bows pointing north and a gentle list to starboard. We love that you can drop straight onto the bridge, often the shallowest point, and feel the sheer scale of this ship even before you descend into the holds. The superstructure is quite broken up, but it makes for fascinating exploration, weaving through collapsed decks and discovering where bulkheads once stood. You'll find a surprising number of fish here, conger eels peeking from every dark corner, and sometimes a curious seal will shadow your dive. For divers who appreciate the history and the cold water challenge, Gohan offers a proper, atmospheric wreck dive.
