Wreck of shipwreck possibly the Lady Primrose - Scapa Flow, Orkney

Of all the smaller wrecks in Scapa Flow, the Lady Primrose, or what we strongly suspect is her, really stands out. She’s not one of the German High Seas Fleet giants, but she’s got a personality all her own. We love finning along her keel, seeing how the cold North Sea has slowly sculpted her timbers, leaving a hull that’s more skeleton than ship in places. You’ll find her draped in kelp, a living cloak swaying gently with the surge, and inside her holds, hundreds of little squat lobsters scuttle amongst the debris. The dive here often feels like stepping back in time, a quiet exploration of a vessel that once had a purpose. We’ve spent whole dives just poking around her bow, looking for the tell-tale signs of her cargo, imagining the journey she never completed. Visibility can be a mixed bag, as it often is in Scapa, but when it’s good, the light filtering down through the kelp forest is genuinely magical. She’s a fantastic dive for those who appreciate the subtle beauty of a well-aged wreck, not just the sheer scale. Our advice? Go slow, really take your time to appreciate the details.
