Wreck of SMS König

The SMS König is an absolute monster, even by Scapa Flow standards. We're talking about a dreadnought battleship, flipped completely upside down, lying at around 40 metres. The sheer scale hits you the moment you drop down. You’ll be finning along vast steel plates, the rivets like giant barnacles. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the massive props are still mostly intact, draped in dead man's fingers and anemones. It’s an advanced dive, cold and often dark, but the rewards are immense. The swim-throughs are exhilarating – narrow passages into the hull, where you can feel the pressure of the water and the history all around you. Look for bull rout tucked into crevices and the occasional masked crab scuttling across the deck plates. We'd suggest a good torch, a reel for exploration, and plenty of bottom time to really appreciate this behemoth. It's a dive that stays with you.
